The historic market town of Tavistock nestles on the western edge of Dartmoor within the Tamar Valley Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Shopping in the wide range of small, individual shops makes a refreshing change from the usual high street chain stores and there are many cafes and restaurants to relieve the weary shopper. The river Tavy runs behind the main street and you can follow its course past the pretty weir  and through the Park with its beautiful open spaces, canal, swimming pool, tennis courts, bowling green and the Wharf Theatre and Cinema.
